clip_image010 clip_image012 clip_image014 The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) issued a press release stating that it, the US Geological Survey, and the Department of Energy completed a 15-day research expedition in the northern Gulf of Mexico, obtaining the best-ever high-resolution seismic data and imagery of sediments with high saturations of gas hydrates. Gas hydrates, consisting primarily of methane, are potentially a significant energy source. (5/14/13).
Indian Ocean – pirate threat continues
clip_image020 The EU NAVFOR issued a press release stating that, even though it has been a full year since the last successful hijacking by Somali pirates, seafarers transiting the high risk area must remain on alert as the pirates continue in their efforts to locate easy targets. Nine ships have been attacked in the past years, all unsuccessfully. Two ships and 54 hostages are still held by the Somali pirates. (3/14/13). Fonte: Dennis Bryant.
