Gulf of Alaska – rescuing the rescuers

The US Coast Guard issued a news release stating that a commercial tug is towing the USCGC Spar back to Kodiak after it became disabled while responding to the disabled and adrift fishing vessel Lady Gudny in the Gulf of Alaska in inclement weather. As Spar took Lady Gudny in tow, the line separated and entangled in Spar's propellers. The four persons on Lady Gudny were airlifted to Kodiak. Senate – bill introduced re tsunami detection

Senator Cantwell (D-WA) introduced a bill (S. 53) to authorize and strengthen the tsunami detection, forecast, warning, research, and mitigation program of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and for other purposes. Official text of the bill is not yet available. (1/5/17).

Representative Bonamici (D-OR) introduced a bill (H.R. 312) to authorize and strengthen the tsunami detection, forecast, warning, research, and mitigation program of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and for other purposes. California – marine invasive species reporting requirements

The California State Lands Commission (SLC) issued a letter reminding stakeholders of various reporting requirements related to marine invasive species. Singapore – oil spill cleanup

The Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) issued a news release stating that good progress has been made in containing and cleaning up the oil spillage from the Wan Hai 301-APL Denver collision.
