DOD – undersea communications link
The Department of Defense (DOD) issued a news release stating that DARPA is working on development of the Tactical Undersea Network Architecture (TUNA) program to improve undersea communications capability for US forces when traditional tactical networks are unavailable. The system would utilize neutrally buoyant high data rate secure fiber links connected to RF network node buoys. Australia & Japan – shipment of bulk liquid hydrogen
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) issued a media release stating that Australia and Japan signed a memorandum which will allow liquid hydrogen to be shipped in bulk for the first time. Ship containment systems will be capable of safety transporting liquid hydrogen in bulk from Australia to Japan as part of a pilot project scheduled to commence in 2020. China – use of low sulphur content fuel
The Chinese Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) issued a news release stating that, with effect from 1 January 2017, the requirement for ships to use fuels with a maximum sulphur content of 0.5% when berthing has been extended to eleven additional ports.
