US & Ghana – maritime law enforcement partnership
The US Navy issued a news release [located at http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=93125] stating that Ghanaian and US maritime forces have completed Africa Maritime Law Enforcement Partnership (AMLEP) operations. US Navy and US Coast Guard personnel worked with personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Navy, and the Ghana Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development to patrol Ghanaian territorial waters and EEZ to combat seaborne illicit activity. Alaska – marine debris removal
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) issued a press release [located at http://dec.alaska.gov/commish/press_releases/2016/states-marine-debris-program-receives-$950,000-for-2016-cleanup-efforts.pdf] stating that it has received $950,000 for marine debris removal projects along the Gulf of Alaska shoreline. The funds were provided by the Government of Japan via the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Polystyrene foam, clearly identifiable as debris from the 2011 tsunami in Japan, continues to be a substantial percentage of the marine debris found in Alaska. (2/11/16). Fonte: Dennis Bryant.
