USCG – Arctic Coast Guard Forum
The US Coast Guard issued a news release [located at http://www.uscgnews.com/go/doc/4007/2484382/] the Arctic Coast Guard Forum (ACGF) recently met at US Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC. The ACGF is a cooperative initiative between nations with shared maritime interests in the Arctic and consists of Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Russian Federation, and the United States. The goal of the ACGF is to support safe, secure, and environmentally responsible maritime activity in the Arctic region. (3/26/15).Hawaii – Humpback Whale NMS
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) proposes to expand the boundaries and scope of the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary (NMS), change the sanctuary's name, and transition it from a single-species management approach to an ec0system-based management approach. Comments on the proposal and the draft revised management plan should be submitted by 19 June. 80 Fed. The California State Lands Commission (SLC) posted its 2015 Biennial Report on the California Marine Invasive Species Program [located at http://www.slc.ca.gov/Spec_Pub/MFD/Ballast_Water/Documents/Reports/2015MISPBiennialReport.pdf]. The 133-page report discusses both the state's ballast water management program and the state's hull husbandry program. The report notes that no currently available ballast water management system meets California performance standards. (February 2015).
