Australia – ship routing measures

The IMO issued a news release [located at http://www.imo.org/MediaCentre/PressBriefings/Pages/06-coral-sea-routeing.aspx#.VQdMitLF98E] stating that the Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue (NCSR 2) agreed on ship routing measures to protect sensitive areas in Australia's Coral Sea region. The matter now goes to the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) for consideration. (3/16/15).

Great Barrier Reef – dredge material disposal to be banned

The Honorable Greg Hunt MP, Australian Minister for the Environment, issued a media release [located at http://www.environment.gov.au/minister/hunt/2015/mr20150316.html?utm_source=mins&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed] stating that the Federal Government plans to ban capital dredge material disposal in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, ending a century-old practice.
