OFAC – economic sanctions against Iran
The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a press release stating that it has expanded the economic sanctions against Iran to designate additional entities. Of particular interest is the addition to the list of Moallem Insurance Company for providing marine insurance to the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) vessels. (12/21/10).
USCG – top videos for 2010
The US Coast Guard issued a news release stating that it has posted its top eleven videos for 2010 and is seeking public input on their favorites. (12/20/10).
UNCTAD – Review of Maritime Transport
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) released its Review of Maritime Transport 2010. It shows that international seaborne trade contracted by 4.5% in 2009 to 7.84 billion tons. Recovery is underway, but it has proven to be slow and uneven. (12/20/10). EU – regulating air emissions from ships
The European Union (EU) Joint Research Centre (JRC) issued its report on Regulating Emissions from Ships. The report finds that maritime transport causes about 4% of global man-made CO2 emissions. A process for regulating air emissions from ships is currently under discussion in the IMO and at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This report provides a comprehensive overview of methodologies for estimating air emissions from shipping, describes technological solutions, and proposes policy options for reducing the emissions. Australia – audit and review of security plans
The Australian Department of Infrastructure and Transport issued a Guidance Paper on Requirements for Internal and External Audit and Review of Security Plans, applicable to maritime security plans of facilities, vessels, and offshore facilities. (12/20/10).
Australia – Great Barrier Reef ship reporting system
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) issued a media release reminding the maritime community that the expanded mandatory ship reporting system for the southern portion of the Great Barrier Reef comes into effect on 1 July 2011. (12/21/10). Fonte: Dennis Bryant.
