Arabian Gulf – USN rescues two Iranian mariners

The US Navy issued a news release stating that the USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) located and provided assistance to two Iranian mariners. The mariners were adrift after their dhow sank. The US Navy warship provided food and water. It also asked the Omani Navy to contact Iranian authorities. The US Navy warship stood by until the mariners were picked up by the Iranian Coast Guard. EU NAVFOR – Ukraine offers to participate in counter-piracy effort

The EU NAVFOR issued a press release stating that the Government of Ukraine has offered to participate in the counter-piracy effort of Operation Atalanta. (11/18/10).

UK – investigation of fatal workboat accident

The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) issued the report of its investigation into a fatal accident on board a workboat in Roscoff, France on 1 March 2010. A deckhand was fatally injured when struck by a towing hawser when it parted. Investigation revealed that the workboat had no written procedures for towing operations.
