Ano Polar Internacional - Convite
June 10, 2008
Dear Ocean Colleague,
The World Ocean Observatory and International Polar Year are pleased invite you to join us for International Polar Year’s Science Day: Land and Life!
International Polar Year in collaboration with the World Ocean Observatory and Saba Centra Live™ will bring you two online global polar events on June 18th and 19th, 2008. Global audiences will connect in real-time to polar scientists and with young people live at the UNEP Children’s Conference in Stavanger, Norway. Both events, each 30 minutes in length, will cover the same topics and are timed to accommodate different time zones.

Polar landscapes and polar terrestrial ecosystems extend from southern cold maritime islands to dry continental deserts in Antarctica, and from tree line across the continental tundra to remote northern islands in the Arctic. Ice, in the forms of permafrost, snow, and ice cover, plays a dominant role in all these environments, and the biological communities survive through remarkable adaptations and extensive migration.
Join scientists Dr. Maarten Loonen, Margareta Johanssen, Dr. Jonas Akerman, Dr. Paul Overduin, and Dr. Hugues Lantuit to discuss their work on bird health, thermal state of permafrost, and coastal erosion. Visit IPY’s Meet the Scientists page for biographies, research summaries, photos and more!
For information on other International Polar Year Projects, visit the IPY website: http://www.ipy.org.
The World Ocean Observatory is dedicated to information, education and public discourse about the ocean defined as an integrated global social system. We believe that informed citizens worldwide can unite to sustain the ocean through mitigation and change of human behavior on land and sea.
Please join us for this extraordinary opportunity to meet polar scientists working in the field. Click here for participation instructions! Please do not hesitate to contact us: forum@thew2o.net.
Thank you!
The World Ocean Observatory and International Polar Year
