"According to an article by the Telegraph, the radical move is on the table as part of a decisive shift away from fossil fuels and as part of preparations for the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as Cop26, set to be held in Glasgow in the autumn. The UK is already bound to deliver net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 with a new strategy to assist in these efforts from its oil and gas regulator OGA announced in December 2020. The strategy was set into motion after approval by the government in February 2021."
