USCG – ECA limited exemption re Tier II engines
The US Coast Guard issued a bulletin stating that the IMO adopted an amendment to MARPOL Annex VI that allows transit through an Emissions Control Area (ECA) with a Tier II engine if the vessel is sailing directly to or from a shipyard or other repair facility without loading or unloading cargo. Vessels wishing to enter either US ECA under this exemption must notify the USCG in advance. The amendment enters into force on 1 January 2019.
