US & Canada – Coast Guard Summit
The US Coast Guard issued a bulletin stating that a US-Canada Coast Guard Summit was held in Grand Haven, Michigan. Among other things, the 2017 update to the Joint Marine Pollution Contingency Plan was signed. Gulf of Mexico – barge fire extinguished
The US Coast Guard issued a news release stating that the fire on the barge near Cat Island in the Gulf of Mexico has been extinguished. The barge is carrying 2,500 tons of anhydrous ammonia and 800 gallons of diesel fuel. The incident is under investigation. USCG – Cutter Maple reaches Northwest Passage
The US Coast Guard issued a news release stating that the buoy tender USCGC Maple has reached the Northwest Passage on its voyage from Sitka, Alaska to Baltimore. The vessel is conducting scientific research en route and is accompanied by the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Sir Wilfrid Laurier.
