USCG – hurricane season
The National Hurricane Center reports that Tropical Storm Bret is moving west along the coast of Venezuela, while Tropical Storm Cindy is churning in the western Gulf of Mexico, forecast to make landfall in western Louisiana and eastern Texas. This is a good time masters of ships and operators of facilities to review their emergency plans and to take note of the relevant US Coast Guard hurricane contingency plans. Bay Area – protecting blue whales and blue skies
The Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District issued a news release stating that, effective 1 July, its 'Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies' program is expanding to the San Francisco Bay area. The voluntary program slows ship transits to 12 knots or under. The program expansion is being undertaken by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the Cordell Bank, Greater Farallones, and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuaries.
