ReCAAP – first quarter summary

The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre posted a summary of incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asian waters during the first quarter of 2017. While the total number of incidents rose compared to 2016, the number of actual incidents declined. Australia – man overboard rescue

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) issued a media release stating that the master and crew of the car carrier Comet Ace have been honored for the remarkable rescue of a mariner who fell overboard from the bulk carrier Cape Spencer off Papua New Guinea on 8 April. The bulk carrier reported the mariner missing when he could not be located on board. The AMSA issued a broadcast to shipping. Comet Ace diverted and found the mariner despite poor visibility.
