Savannah – safety zones proposed
The US Coast Guard proposes to establish temporary safety zones throughout the Savannah Captain of the Port (COTP) zone for use in the event of natural or manmade disasters affecting navigable waterways. The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) issued a press release [located at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/dutch-chief-mate-sentenced-for-fatal-collision] stating that the chief mate of a dredger was sentenced to nine months, reduced to six months which has been suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to failure to maintain a proper watch.
