Haiti – collision damages general cargo ship
The US Coast Guard issued a news release
stating that the 557-foot general cargo ship Seagate and the 492-foot
refrigerated cargo ship Timor Stream collided in the North Atlantic
approximately 60 miles northeast of Isle de Tortue, Haiti. Eighteen of
the 21 crewmembers on the Seagate boarded liferafts and were safely
transferred to other vessels. Three crewmembers remain on board to
assess the damage. The ship is reported to be stable, but one of the
fuel tanks was punctured with the potential release of 4,000 gallons of
lube oil. The Timor Stream reportedly suffered minimal damage. A US
Coast Guard cutter is standing by. (3/10/12).
Mexico & US – Gulf of Mexico transboundary hydrocarbon agreement
The Department of the Interior (DOI) issued a news release
unveiling the recently-signed agreement between the United States and
Mexico concerning transboundary hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Gulf of
Mexico. The agreement establishes a framework for the cooperative
exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbon resources that cross the
United States-Mexico maritime boundary in the Gulf of Mexico (excluding
