USCG – ballast water management rule

The US Coast Guard issued a news release stating that its final rule for standards for living organisms in ships’ ballast water discharged into waters of the United States is scheduled for publication in the Federal Register on Friday, March 23. A public inspection copy of the final rule has been posted. The final rule will come into effect 90 days after publication. (3/16/12). Note: The United States has played its cards and adopted the same basic standard as that put forward by the IMO. The time has come for those nations that have been holding back to formally ratify the International Convention on Ballast Water Management.
