Unofficial reports indicate that US military forces, including US Navy
SEAL personnel, conducted a raid into northern Somalia last night,
rescuing two civilians (an American woman and a Danish man) who had been
kidnapped by militants in October. The civilians had been assisting in
the disposal of unexploded bombs and land mines. At least seven
militants have been killed and others wounded. The two civilians are now
in a safe location. There were no deaths or injuries among the US
personnel. (1/25/12). Note: While this raid was not directed at
Somali pirates, it provides further evidence that the area may not be
